A Healthy Addition to Your Day - Ladoos

/a healthy addition to your day

Ladoos are a beautiful way to get nutrients into the body to support our energy systems and a great compliment to meals or at tea time. In America we may call them energy balls or the like. India has been mixing up ladoos for a very long time. Ladoo means like sweet ball and they come in endless varieties. Some are made with wheat flour, coconut, peanuts, dry fruits, nuts, even lentils and often mixed up with jaggery or raw sugar. They are a blend of nutrient rich foods that are warming to the internal body and supportive of digestion where ghee has been used.

Here a homemade dink ladoo has been made to support mamsa (muscle), meda (fat) and asthi (bone) tissues, delivering strengthening nutrients to enhance vitality. Dink is an edible gum with incredible ability to enhance bone health being rich in calcium and supportive of muscle tissue. It is hard substance and when sautéed in a little ghee, becomes pleasantly crunchy. Take whatever you have on hand - almonds, walnuts, cashews, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, fresh dates, etc. and individually sauté a few handfuls or more into some ghee in a pan. Once done, blend it up in a food processor. I did not add jaggery to this batch but if you’d like to make balls, try making a jaggery syrup with jaggery and water (boiled until thickened a bit) and use that to form the balls. This will also add more of the sweet taste. Or you can do as I do a lot of the times and take a tablespoon (or a little more) into a small dish and eat alongside your breakfast or lunch. Enjoy creating your own blend, paying attention to the tastes you enjoy the most !
